My Favorite Time of the Year!

The ‘BER’ months have always been my favorite time of the year.  The new school year, football, cooler weather, bonfires, apples, pumpkins, flannel, that crisp smell of fall and the holidays always make me smile.  This time of year always reminds me of how beautiful it is to let things go and to hunker down for a long winter of reflection before the Spring blossoms.

Baked goods with apples or pumpkins spiked with spices like cinnamon and ginger always feel like home.

When the weather gets cooler, the thoughts of molasses and pumpkin fill my mind and heart.  This is the first full fall in my new home with Benji and I want to bake delicious treats, cook hearty food and read novels!

With the cooler temperatures and comfort foods on my mind, I decided to bake dog treats with my favorite flavors.  My signature Belly Rub Biscuits with pumpkin, cinnamon and ginger and my Ginger Snaps with molasses, cinnamon and ginger filled my home with smells I love and the feelings of comfort and joy.  Benji loved them too and I thought they were pretty tasty.  When I was baking the Ginger Snaps, Benji sat in the doorway to the kitchen with his nose in the air smelling those sweet smells.  Yep, that’s my dog!

A word of caution about spices.  Nutmeg is toxic to dogs as well as clove.  I left those out of my treats, but human Ginger Snaps and Gingerbread cookies may have these ingredients.  I would keep those treats for human consumption and share dog friendly treats!

I am looking forward to spending my first Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year with Benji.  He has no idea what’s in store.  I just hope he doesn’t pee on the Christmas tree like Guinness.  I can laugh about that now!

Happy Hallo-thanks-mas everyone!  Check out the treats on my bakery page HERE !!
